HP PC Review

2026-08-07

Finally got the review finished for the mini PC: https://www.regexghost.com/other/reviews/hp-prodesk-600/. Although I forgot to monitor temperatures during the tests so I had to re-run some of them at the end.

At some point I would like to automate a lot of these tests. I’m sure you could make a script that downloads and runs Geekbench, Passmark, Unigine Heaven, glmark etc, and saves the results to a file.

I was actually quite surprised how well current Minecraft runs on the PC, given it’s a low end chip from 12 years ago, with very weak integrated graphics. I’d like to do more testing, I’m curious if I could get a consistent 60fps out of it, if I used an older Minecraft version and ran it at 720p. Terraria not so great, technically had about the same fps as Minecraft, but it’s basically unplayable without a consistent 60, plus that was right at the start, not when your fighting a boss with loads of effects on the screen etc.

Also a sidenote about Terraria, I wish they would make it easy to get old versions, just like how Minecraft is. For all the crap people throw at Mojang/Microsoft, nobody ever praises that feature still being included. Also the fact Minecraft still has custom launchers like MultiMC, I’m sure Microsoft could throw their weight around and get all these launchers nuked if they wanted, but they don’t. Not that they should, just saying it’s nice to see.

Update: I tested Minecraft 1.16.5, with and without Sodium/Lithium, and it was a bit better, I was able to get 50-60fps with Sodium, only dropping to 40fps when loading new chunks. So you definitely could play (older) Minecraft on this PC.
